Developmental Editing

Developmental editing looks at the manuscript as a whole and focuses on improving your story's structure, pacing, perspective, narrative style, organization, and loose ends. In this in-depth process, material may be added, removed, or reorganized.

Rate: 3 cents per word

Line Editing

Line editing focuses on improving sentence structure, checking for consistency, removing clichés or awkward phrasing, and improving clarity and sense of scenes. Kristen's line editing service also includes Kindle e-book formatting free of charge.

Rate: 2 cents per word


Proofreading is the last step in the editing process, focusing on the grammar, punctuation, and spelling of your manuscript. Proofreading often occurs after developmental editing and line editing, ensuring the manuscript is free of surface errors.

Rate: 1.2 cents per word

First Chapter Critique

Does your opening chapter have what it takes to snag the reader? Will your reader be intrigued enough to continue reading your book? Kristen will critique your first chapter (up to 4,000 words) and point out potential flaws that may hinder your novel's sales and success.

Rate: $75

Manuscript Critique

Does your book have what it takes to make it in today's market? Kristen will read your entire manuscript, then provide you honest, constructive feedback in the form of a 10-page single-spaced report addressing your characters, writing quality, pacing, and overall plot.

Rate: 1.5 cents per word ($400 minimum) 

Query Letter Writing

A query letter is the first contact between the author and a potential publisher or agent. Using a specific formula, Kristen writes concise and effective query letters to boost your chances in snagging publisher or agent interest, moving you one step closer to a book deal.

Blurb Writing

The blurb, also known as the “back cover description” of any book, tells readers what your story is about, drawing them in and encouraging them to buy your book. This critical aspect of any book's marketing plan converts potential readers into buyers.

Book Synopsis Writing

Agents and publishers often request a synopsis before they consider representing your manuscript—so a well-written synopsis is a necessity! The industry standard for a synopsis is 1 page per 50,000 words. $75 minimum charge.
Rate: $75 per 2 pages
