Payment Options

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing looks at the manuscript as a whole and focuses on improving your story's structure, pacing, perspective, narrative style, organization, and loose ends. In this in-depth process, material may be added, removed, or reorganized.

Rate: 6 cents per word

 
 

Line Editing

Line editing focuses on improving sentence structure, checking for consistency, removing clichés or awkward phrasing, and improving clarity and sense of scenes. Kristen's line editing service also includes Kindle e-book formatting free of charge.

Rate: 4 cents per word

 
 

Proofreading

Proofreading is the last step in the editing process, focusing on the grammar, spelling, and punctuation of your manuscript. Proofreading occurs after the developmental and line editing passes to help improve the manuscript of surface errors.

Rate: 2 cents per word

 
 
 

First Chapter Critique

Does your opening chapter have what it takes to snag the reader? Will your reader be intrigued enough to continue reading? Kristen will critique your first chapter (up to 4,000 words) and point out potential flaws that may hinder your novel's sales and success.

Rate: $150

 
 
 

Manuscript Critique

Does your book have what it takes to make it in today's market? After reading your entire manuscript, Kristen will provide you honest, constructive feedback in the form of a 10-page report addressing your characters, writing quality, pacing, and overall plot.

Rate: 3 cents per word ($500 minimum) 

 
 

Methods of Payment

A down payment is required upfront before projects begin. If needed, projects may be split up into sections for easier payments. Funds must clear before project begins. Required 100% payment upfront for projects under $200. All prices are in USD.

Timeframe
Most manuscript editing projects require a deadline of about 3-4 weeks, depending on editor availability and manuscript length. Kristen is usually booked several months in advance; please e-mail Kristen to check current availability.


Contract
Prior to all projects, both parties will sign a contract, ensuring all parties understand all parts of the agreement.

Blurb Writing

The blurb (also known as the book's description) tells readers what your story is about, drawing them in with the story's premise and encouraging them to buy your book. This critical aspect of any book's marketing plan transforms potential readers into buyers.

E-book Formatting

E-book formatting services include creating copyright and title pages, margins, chapter headings, scene breaks, text size, line spacing, line and paragraph indentation, and more. The end product will be ready for immediate upload to Amazon Kindle.

Paperback Formatting

The paperback formatting includes creating copyright and title pages, and formatting page numbers, scene breaks, and more. The end product, formatted to size dimensions of the author’s choice, will be ready for immediate upload to Create Space.

Traditional Publishing Packages

Query Letter Writing

A query letter is the first contact between the author and a potential publisher or agent. An effective query letter boosts your chances of snagging agent interest, moving you one step closer to a book deal. Does your query letter make your story stand out from the competition?

Book Synopsis Writing 

A synopsis is a clear picture of what happens in your book, including the overall story plot, characters,  and narrative arc. Agents and publishers often request a synopsis before they will consider representing an author's manuscript, so a well-written synopsis is a necessity for authors.


Rate: $400

Book Proposal

The 30-40 page book proposal is the foundation of your book's pitch, and is best for authors who have written a portion of their book and are seeking a book deal. This in-depth process includes researching the market and competitive titles, creating a solid marketing plan, and more.
