Give the Gift of Editing!

Posted by Kristen Hamilton on November 22, 2017 at 6:15 PM

It’s Black Friday, and that means the Christmas season has officially begun! Prepare yourselves: The onslaught of advertisements is going to hit you harder than indigestion from last night’s turkey dinner.

Perhaps someone in your life is a writer and has dreams of publishing a book. Why not give them the gift of an investment of professional editing for their manuscript?

For someone who is serious about their writing career, hiring a professional editor is the most effective way to improve their manuscript and become a better writer. A knowledgeable book editor will analyze and edit any errors in writing, flow, plot, or word choice, improving the author’s manuscript and working one-on-one to highlight his or her strengths and teach to correct the errors in her writing.

The holiday shopping season is good for many things, one of which is great deals! That's why I'm happy to offer new clients two fantastic options on their book's first chapter . . . of course, with deep holiday discounts:

First Chapter Critique

Does your opening chapter have what it takes to snag the reader? Will your reader be intrigued enough to continue reading? In the First Chapter Critique, I critique your first chapter (up to 4,000 words), writing on the manuscript itself and addressing issues that I may have as a first-time reader (for example, pointing out something that is too vague, inconsistent, etc.). I also write a 5-page evaluation report in which I evaluate and detail issues in your first chapter's sources of conflict, plot development, pacing, point of view/perspective, and character development.

Originally $150  Holiday special!  $65

* This price effective until December 25

First Chapter Basic Edit

This package includes line editing and proofreading, two separate passes, for your book's first chapter (up to 4,000 words). Line editing focuses on improving sentence structure, looking at the logic and clarity of scenes, maintaining consistency, rhythm of sentences, and breaking up too-long paragraphs. Then, proofreading focuses on word choice, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, and is basically a final read-through to make sure your Chapter 1 doesn’t have any surface errors. Once proofreading is complete, your Chapter 1 will be ready for self-publishing, or to be sent out to agents/publishers.

Originally $180  Holiday special!  $75

* This price effective until December 25

Learn more about how the editing process works, or see what authors can expect when working with meI can hold a spot on my schedule anytime into late next year so the author you know can take their time finishing their manuscript before sending it to me. Until then . . . just imagine the way their face will light up when they see that you've thoughtfully decided to invest in their work as a Christmas gift to them! Authors are always happy when they work with me—just see my testimonials to prove it.

Contact me to ask questions or book one of these specials, and I'll send an e-gift certificate to put under the tree for the lucky writer in your life.

Happy shopping, and may your days be merry and bright.
