Choose Me! 5 Reasons Why You Should Hire Me

I’ve got competition for your business from two major sources: other book editors (particularly cheaper, quick-job editors) and artificial intelligence.

1. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF BOOK EDITORS OUT THERE. (No, really!) Especially since the pandemic, it seems that everyone wants to work from home. Honestly, most of these editors are new (and there’s nothing wrong with that!). But they’re charging bottom-dollar rates for something that requires a skill and lots of time. Perhaps they’re feeding your manuscript into an AI editor. If this is the editor for you, go for it! But this is not the type of work I provide.

2. MORE AUTHORS ARE USING AI FOR BOOK EDITING. It’s easy for an author to outsource their book to AI for editing. And although artificial intelligence can be good with flagging typos and sentence-level errors, AI doesn’t match a human editor’s capability to understand, flag, and fix issues with the story.

In a market this competitive, there must be something to set me apart from the others. Below, a list of things that gives me a cutting edge against the rest. Why should you hire me?

1. I have over a decade of experience helping authors in their publishing Journeys.

Since my experience in the writing/editing field began in 2003, I have helped others publish an ever-growing list of books, both self-published and traditionally published. I have astounding qualifications, an impressive portfolio, and a flawless mastery of the complexities of the English language—and from that, I have become a reputable manuscript editor for first-time and veteran authors. To date, I have edited over 500 books, several of which have won awards and become Amazon bestsellers. That’s a lot of experience.

I have become a reputable manuscript editor for first-time and veteran authors.

Before I launched into my career as a fiction book editor, I was classically trained at Boise State University, where I learned about the nuances of linguistics and language, sentence structure and rhythm. I learned the importance of tone, setting, plot, and character development in short story and novel-writing classes. Hands-on workshopping classes gave me on-the-job experience before I founded my business. Ongoing courses at the EFA and ACES ensure I keep my skills up to date.

This knowledge culminates in a track record of well-edited books (with the awards and accolades to show for it). Which means your book becomes the best version of itself for publication.

2. I OFFER A HANDS-ON collaboration where I teach authors how to become better writers.

With every manuscript editing service I provide, I provide my clients with my time, my dedicated attention, and my meticulous editing skills. I spend countless hours working alongside authors to help improve their writing style, and I am available to my clients for questions, feedback, or advice about the publishing industry—and that’s a valuable tool.

With each project, I provide authors with an Editor’s Report, a 1-page writeup on their manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses, including the main issues I found when editing. I am always available (via e-mail, phone, or in person if applicable) to help my clients with providing advice, offering suggestions, and answering questions about the publishing industry.

In short, I’m the editor to select if you are serious about your writing career, and want to publish a quality book.

3. I’m A reliable Publishing Consultant.

I’ve seen it happen a lot: Editors won’t meet their deadlines. They do subpar work. They charge $500 to edit a manuscript, but the editing is sloppy and inconsistent. They’re unavailable for follow-up issues or questions. Authors walk away feeling frustrated, uncertain, and invalidated. This is not who you want editing your book.

For me, book editing is not just a passion—it’s my life’s work. I’m part of the collaboration. I’m an integral part of your publishing team, and I act like it. I’m reliable. I pride myself on my communication, my professionalism, and my friendliness, and I’m here in my clients’ corner to help them succeed.

And the result is that authors are happy with my work. I help them go from rough draft to a published book. They come back, and we do it again and again. It’s a wonderful, productive partnership that is becoming rarer these days in publishing.

4. NO OUTSOURCING.

I am the sole owner/employee of Kristen Corrects, Inc., so the only person you’ll be working with during this entire process is me (e-mails, phone calls, all editing—everything). I get entirely involved and dedicated to an author’s manuscript, and love offering that level of personalized service.

After all, I’m not just the editor. I’m the publishing consultant. The advice-giver. The person in your corner who helps you make creative decisions. Your cheerleader.

I know firsthand that working with just one person gives you more personalized service and a sense of partnership. My goal is to build a working collaboration with you and help you succeed in publishing your best book. Because of this partnership, my clients come back to me again and again. A substantial amount of testimonials mention my impressive willingness to help.

5. I am always friendly, helpful, and grateful for your work.

You will never see an e-mail from me that doesn’t end with the words “thank you.” Regardless of whether your project costs $50 or $5,000, you will always receive my genuine gratitude. Because you choose me, I’m able to do what I love. And I can never say thank you enough.

I hope to hear from you! Send me an e-mail and tell me about your project, and I can tell you how I can help.
